Hampton, VA (July 27, 2010) – Last night former college softball All-Americans and national champions Katie Cochran and Ashley Charters played alongside retiring superstar Jennie Finch for the U.S. National Team on ESPN, helping the Americans defeat Japan and capture the championship at the World Cup of Softball. Later this week they will be teaching young players the finer points of the sport and playing on a traveling professional all-star team against local collegiate stars in the Tidewater area.

The U.S. Professional All-StarsTM and Dynasty 6TM, a pair of traveling women’s professional all-star fastpitch softball teams, will be playing games in Hampton, VA, at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 31. The U.S. Professional All-StarsTM will take on the Virginia Legends at 5 p.m., followed by the Dynasty 6TM game against the CNU/VWC college all-stars.

Charters and Cochran, along with U.S. Futures Team members Jenae Leles and Angela Tincher (Virginia Tech/2008 College Player of the Year), will be working with the Virginia Legends 18u team Wednesday at the stadium and then instructing more young players at the 22nd Tidewater Girls Softball Camp in Newport News Thursday and Friday.

In addition to the games and the camp, there will be a hitting clinic for kids ages 7-18 featuring members of the U.S. Professional All-Stars from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at War Memorial Stadium. Game tickets, at a discounted price of $10, can be purchased in advance for the event at www.USAllStarTeam.com. Players may sign up for the clinic, which costs $35, online as well. Ticket prices and registration fees for those who purchase in person the day of the event will be higher.

Clinic participants receive a free ticket to the games if accompanied by a paying adult. Following the clinic, the public is invited to watch the pros take batting practice as well as to meet them, take photos and seek autographs. War Memorial Stadium is located at 1889 W. Pembroke Ave., Hampton, VA 2366

Cochran, a former NCAA batting champion, and Charters helped lead the U.S. to the world championship in June before the latest triumph. Cochran belted three home runs and hit .318 at the World Cup as the team’s cleanup hitter, while Charters went 4-for-6 in the last two games of the tournament, including 2-for-3 vs. Japan in the title game, to finish at .385 as the team’s starter at second base.
